It is both a pleasure and a privilege to introduce the 3rd International Congress on Chinese Studies, organized by the Centro de Estudios Chinos Lu Xun, which also is one part of the programme of the XXXI edition of the summer courses of the University of Basque Country (UPV/EHU).
One of the fundamental objectives of our Centre is the promotion of scientific research into all areas directly related to the discipline of Chinese Studies, as well as the sharing of findings of uncountable colleagues throughout the scientific and cultural community.
As a general theme for this first congress, we propose that of Economy and Society, without closing the door on other papers within the ample domain of Chinese Studies.
We shall address the main theme with the assistance of leading researchers and authors in each of the proposed areas. Our priority is to welcome other papers and observations to encourage a collective consideration and an exchange of ideas and experiences among participants.
I am confident that this invitation will be received with the same enthusiasm that I, as Congress Chair, express in extending this invitation to participate in our reflections.
